Things to do to pass the time at home this Christmas

Christmas is a fun and exciting time for all the family but the excitement begins a lot earlier than Christmas Day and often goes right through to New Year so you’ll definitely need to be prepared with some entertaining activities to help pass the time this year, especially if there’s unsettled family members involved. As you tuck into your turkey dinner, consider these fun festive activities this Christmas.

In preparation for the Christmas period there’s no better time to get your baking utensils out and create some truly classic seasonal bites. Turn your kitchen into a Christmas culinary bakehouse filled with delicious sweet treats for the whole family. Build some gingerbread houses and bake some gingerbread men and let guests decorate, ice and add the finishing touches.

The traditional game of bingo has been through a bit of a resurgence in the past couple of years with the emergence of new and exciting bingo variations that are being enjoyed by a whole new generation of bingo players. So it’s the perfect choice for a game that can be enjoyed by the entire family no matter what age. And to give your game a little seasonal edge how about getting arty creating your own bingo cards but instead of numbers try popping down some iconic Christmas-related images such as Santa, reindeer, gifts or a Christmas tree.

When the family’s all together and looking for something to pass the time then it will be an ideal opportunity to hunt out those old board games from your collection for you all to enjoy over the Christmas period. From classics such as Monopoly or Cluedo to more modern and frenetic games like Articulate or 5 Second Rule there’s bound to be something for everyone.

Of course if you don’t fancy these traditional board game offerings or can’t be bothered to dig out the dusty box from the attic then there are a plethora of online games including the Monopoly slot spin off for adults as well as winter-themed titles like Siberian Storm slots and Winter Wonderland.

If you have time in the build up to Christmas Day then it might be great to prepare a special Christmas-themed quiz that you can all enjoy during the evening. You can create a number of different rounds based on Christmas themes and concepts; for example a round where you have missing letters from the names of Santa’s reindeers and you have to fill-in the blanks as well as a round that tests you on questions about various Christmas movies would work really well.
